President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with Transmashholding President Andrey Bokarev and General Director Kirill Lipa.

The meeting was held at Tatarstan Government House with other participants including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan Albert Karimov, Minister of Transport and Roads of the Republic Lenar Safin, Head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency Taliya Minullina, Kazan mayor Ilsur Metshin, and others.

They discussed the modernization of the rolling stock of the Kazan Metro and the possibilities of introducing driverless trains.

Transmashholding Managing Director Andrey Romanchikov made a presentation on driverless trains in the Kazan Metro. “Driverless metro trains promote the development of lightly-manned energy-efficient technologies. They are focused on the passengers and operated via a radio channel,” he explained.

“Process automation ensures more reliable operation. We can combine our efforts to develop and implement driverless technologies,” said Rustam Minnikhanov.

The President of Tatarstan ordered to create a working group for a more detailed study of this proposal. It will include representatives of the Transport Ministry of Tatarstan, Metroelectrotrans, the Executive Committee of Kazan, and Transmashholding.
